Mrs. Raleigh Alford accompani ed her sister, Mrs. Irene H. Dick ens of Louisburg, to Miami, Fla., where they spent the last two weeks vacationing. * ' Lee Tippett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carsey Tippett, underwent an ade noidectomy last Friday at Rex Hospital. He is recovering splen didly at his home on Gannon Ave. * Mrs. Ann Harris of Kinston was the houseguest of her daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ferd Davis, this week. Mrs. Harris attended the State Daughters of the Ameri can Revolution convention held in Raleigh. Week-long guests of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Chamblee and family were Mrs. Chamblee’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Jones. Mr. and Mrs. Jones were enroute to their home in Melrose, Mass., after a vacation in Ft. Pierce, Ila. * Weekend houseguests of Dr. and Mrs. George Tucker were Mr. and Mrs. James L. Strange and two children of Richmond, Va. Mrs. Tucker and Mrs. Strange are sis ters. ’ * Mrs. James Pulley attended the Wake County Home Demonstration Club in Raleigh on Monday and learned how to make slip covers and tie springs. She reported that it was most interesting and she en courages other women to take ad vantage of Demonstration club work and their “do-it-your self” projects. , * Miss Dottie Privette of Wake Forest College was the guest of her mother, Mrs. Doris H. Priv ette, during the weekend. * Mrs. Phillip Brown spent the weekend in Richmond with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. T. Bray, Sr. * Willard Winstead of Baltimore and Charles Winstead of Hartford, Conn., , returned to their homes Tuesday after being called here following the illness of their fath er, W. H. Winstead. • Mrs. Dave Finch and children, Molly and Foster III, of Raleigh were Tuesday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Foster Finch. They were ac companied by Mrs. Finch’s father, J. M. Polk of Atlanta, who recent ly suffered severe burns when a fire destroyed his home. He is now almost recovered from the acci dent. * Miss Martha Williams of Clover, Va., was the weekend guest of Mrs. C. G. Weathersby. * Stopover guests of Mrs. Eliza beth Ellett last Sunday were Miss es Hazel Copeland, Frances Smith, Tucker Smith and Deanna Boone Haskins, all of East Carolina Col lege. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Page were Sunday guests of Miss Lula Page of Elm City. . • Mr. and Mrs. Donald Stallings and Donna Faye were Sunday af-r ternoon guests of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Pullen of Raleigh. Mrs. Stallings and Mrs. Pullen are sis ters. * Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Watson of Franklinton were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Finch and Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Watson. * Recent guests of Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Watson were Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Watson and family of Fayetteville. Moore and family Come to Stay The Rev. and Mrs. Troy J. Bar rett announce the birth of a son, William Ralph, on Friday, Feb.28, at Rex Hospital. Mrs. Barrett is the former Robbie Williams of Greensboro. Mrs. Kannon Fetes Diamond Bridge Club Mrs. Frank Kannon entertained the Diamond Bridge Club and guest for the first time last Thurs day night since she has been a member of that club. The Kannon home on Gannon Avenue was beautifully decorated with dried arrangements, with the living room done in elegance with a huge mass arrangement of red gladioli. Club members surrounding the tables were Mrs. Bernice Bunn, Mrs. Norman Screws, Mrs. George Tucker, Mrs. Pat Farmer, Mrs. Howard Beck and Mrs. Charles Flowers. Coming as guests were Mrs. Crafton Hudson and Mrs. Randolph Hendricks. Club high and low score prizes were awarded to Mrs. Tucker and Mrs. Flowers, respectively. Mrs. Hendricks copped guest prize. Follqwing three progressions the hostess laid stunningly appointed tables and served the club mem bers and guests chicken salad on lettuce, potato chips, pickle, spiced peaches, pound cake and coffee. Sherry Delight Delights Couples The living and dining areas of the Ben Thomas residence on Church Street were thrown en suite when Dr. and Mrs. Thomas entertained the Saturday Night Couples Bridge Club last week. Decorations of African violets were used at different vantage points to create an atmosphere of creative beauty7 and charming gentility. Seated at the tables were Mr. and Mrs. Bernice Bunn, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Beck, Mr. and Mrs. Ferd Davis and Mr. and Mrs. Bar rie Davis, all club members. Com ing as guests were Mr. and Mrs. Jack Mitchell and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Smith. After the three progressions, the hosts presented prizes to Mr. and Mrs. Beck, high; Mr. and Mrs. Barrie Davis, low; Barrie Davis, floating; and Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell, guest high. The hosts served a refreshment course of frozen cherry delight, party ham sandwiches, salted nuts and coffee. Cokes were available during play. Mrs. George Tucker Has Touch of Spring For Party Decoration There was a touch of Spring in the den when Mrs. George Tucker recently entertained the Mes Amis Bridge Club at her home on Frank lin Street. She used mass arrange ments of jonquils and snapdragons to enhance the already beautiful room where the three progressions were in play. Club members whisking the cards were Mrs. Fred Smith, Mrs. Howard Beck, Mrs. Chad Rogers, Mrs. Philip Olive, Mrs. Ben Thom as, Mrs. Helen Gregory, Mrs. Lois Wall, Mrs. Garland Godwin and Misses Nell Newby and Mary Lacy Palmer. Guests were Mrs. Bernice Bunn and Mrs. Douglas Finch. High score prize for the eve ning was given to Mrs. Rogers, and low was awarded to Mrs. Thomas. Mrs. Finch was presented guest high. After three progressions the tables were laid and the hostess served a refreshment course of lemon tea tarts, shrimp salad, party crackers, pickles and cof fee. Informal Decorations Used At Whisting The Entre Nous Bridge Club and guests were entertained on Wednesday, Feb. 19, by Mrs. Fos ter Finch'at her home on Gannon Avenue. Informal decorations were used throughout the playing rooms. Club members whisting were Mrs. Vance Brown, Mrs. Wallace Chamblee, Mrs. L. E. Long, Mrs. Ferd Davis, and Mrs. Doris Priv ette. Coming as guests were Mrs. Helen Gregory and Miss Nell New by. High score for club went to Mrs. Privette, with low going to Mrs. Brown. Mrs. Gregory won high for guest. Following three progressions, the hostess served fruit salad, po tato chips, pickle, cheese biscuits, pigs in blankets, coconut” cupcake and coffee. Member Surprised With Birthday Cake At Wed. P.M. Club Mrs. Helen Gregory was delight fully surprised when Mrs. F. D. Finch brought out a birthday cake in her honor when Mrs. Finch en tertained the Wednesday After noon Bridge Club and guests last week at her home on Gannon Ave nue. The Finch home was exquisitely decorated with an all-white mass arrangement of carnations, stepha notis and roses on the dining room table, a pink azalea and dried ar rangements in the living room. Club members present were Mrs. ,W. C. Campen, Mrs. G. S. Barbee, Mrs. Robert D. Massey, Mrs. L. M. Massey, Mrs. Wallace Cham blee, Mrs. Fred Page, Mrs. Ben Thomas, Mrs. Gregory and Miss Mary Lacy Palmer. Coming as guests were Dr. Zyba Massey, Mrs. Lois Wall and Mrs. Vernon Powers of Wendell. Mrs. Page was awarded club high score prize, with low going to Mrs. Chamblee. High for guest was given to Mrs. Powers. During the refreshment hour following three progressions, the hostess brought out a beautifully decorated birthday cake, announc ing it was in honor of Mrs. Greg ory. Other refreshments consisted of boiled custard, cheese crackers, nuts, \ pickle and coffee. Mrs. S. G. Flowers Entertains Her After noon Bridge Club Mrs. S. G. Flowers was hostess to the Wednesday Afternoon Club at her home on East Sycamore Street on February 19. Her home was decorated with lovely floral arrangements. Three tables were in play with the following club members: Mrs. G. S. Barbee, Mrs. F. E. Bunn, Mrs. W. C. Campen, Mrs. J.' F. Coltrane, Mrs. E. C. Daniel, Mrs. John Horton, Mrs. A. R. House, Mrs. B. F. Johnson, Mrs. John Kemp, Mrs. E. H. Moser, Mrs. F. L. Page and Mrs. C. V. Whitley. After the three progressions the hostess served a refreshment course of party cakes, cheese wafers, open face cream cheese sandwiches and coffee. Wakelon Menu MONDAY: Frankfurters in fin ger roll, cheese cubes, lima beans, slaw, purple plums and milk. TUESDAY: Roast beef and gra vy, mashed potatoes, string beans, canned peaches, bread and milk. WEDNESDAY: Fresh sausage patties, fresh turnip greens, field peas, vanilla cobbler, hush puppies, bread and milk. THURSDAY: ^talian spaghetti, potato sticks, pineapple salad, hot biscuits, butter and milk. FRIDAY: Vegetable beef soup, toasted cheese sandwich, carrot strips, ice cream, crackers and milk. Bride-Elect Feted Miss Elizabeth Dean Richardson, bride-elect of April 6, was hon ored at a lingerie shower Saturday night, March 1, by Mi's. Clayton Whitley and Miss Julia Pace. The home was beautifully deco rated in a green and white color scheme for the occasion. The hon oree was given a corsage of white carnations upon arrival. Following the serving of re freshments which consisted of lftne ice, nuts, mints and bridal cakes, Miss Richardson was showered with gifts from the 25 guests pres ent. Miss Elizabeth Dean Richardson, who will be married in April, was honored at a miscellaneous shower given by Mrs. Burdon Richardson, Mrs. Charles Chamblee and Mrs. Osbone Wilder at the home of Mrs. Wilder at Emit, Saturday night. Some thirty-five guests from Zebulon, Wakefield, Wendell and Emit attended the party. They were greeted by the hostesses and at the beginning of the games, the honoree was presented to them and excused from the room while Mrs. Wilder, who conducted the games and contests, asked them fifteen questions concerning the bride and her wearing apparel which no one could answer com pletely. Nuptial green and white were used in the living and dining rooms in effective arrangements of can dles, flowers and ivy. The dining table was covered with a white lace cloth which draped to the floor. In the center was an arrange ment of white daisies and fern cen tered with a bride and groom hold ing a white lace parasol over them selves. Above the table a green and white umbrella was suspended from the ceiling with streamers of the same colors extending from the umbrella fastened at each cor ner with a green and white bow and fern. The buffet was adorned with fern and green and white candles in crystal holders. The most hilarious contest was the measuring of the face to see who had the broadest grin. Many prizes were given but Miss Jean Bunn of Zebulon was the winner in that contest. The bride received many beau COLORED NEWS By Mrs. Lizzie A. Askew The funeral services for Floyd Moore were held last Sunday at the Wakefield Baptist Church. Rev.' C. H. Heath officiated. Rev. C. E. Askew delivered the Founder’s Day address Sunday at the South Nash School. Mrs. Ricxy Montague is in St. Agnes hospital. She is seriously burned. Steven Merriet i in St. Agnes Hospital, Raleigh, suffering from a heart ailment. The Wakefield Baptist Sunday School Teachers met with the H. L. Taylors February 24 at 7:30 p.m. The First Aid Club met Monday evening, Feb. 24, at 8 p.m. Ex ternal Bleeding and Pressure Points were discyssed by Mrs. Dai sy Fowler and Mrs. Lona Richard son. At the close of the meeting salmon salad on lettuce, town house crackers, tea, jello and coolAes were served. Miss O’Rea Daniel of New York is visiting her mother, Mrs. Daniel, of Zebulen. Funeral services for Cleveland Bailey were held at Pilot Baptist Church Sunday. The WMU of Wake County will be held at the Wakefield Baptist Church Saturday night and Sun day. Doctor Finishes Postgrad Courses Dr. Ben D. Thomas, Zebulon doctor, completed six weekly postgraduate courses in obstet rics, medicine and surgery last Thursday. The courses were offered by the extension division of the University of North Car olina Medical College in Raleigh and sponsored by the Wake County Medical Society. tiful and useful gifts which were displayed in the den as Miss Richardson opened them. East Carolina Graduates Elizabeth Dean Richardson Miss Elizabeth Dean Richardson completed the requirements lor the bachelor of science degree in business education and English on Feb. 21 at East Carolina College in Greenville. She will be award ed her diploma at the college’s commencement exercises on May 18. Miss Richardson was an out standing student scholastically through her entire college career. She made the honor roll almost continuously and was on the Dean’s List many times. She was a member of the Future Business Leaders of America or ganization of the college. Mis Richardson resides with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Percy D. Richardson of Route 1, Wendell. Faye Pearce Miss Faye Pearce, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elbert Pearce of East Horton Street, was graduated from East Carolina College on Febru ary 21 with a bachelor of science degree in primary education. She will receive her diploma at the col lege’s commencement exercises to be held on May 18. Miss Pearce, who belonged to the American Childhood Educa tion, Future? Teachers of America, and Y. W. C. A. while at ECC, has accepted a position as second grade teacher in the William Owen Ele mentary School in Fayetteville. She will report to this position on March 10. Prior to graduating from ECC she was graduated from Wakelon High School. '
